1K Blog Marathon: Day 4
It’s happening – the economy is disrupted, many businesses are shutting down, thousands of employees were laid off, classes were suspended, lock-downs are implemented, travel bans, overwhelmed medical industry, it’s raining face masks. Covid-19 is not only a health issue, but also a global “reset” button.
With the crazy things that’s happening, many striving industry are turning into a more unique way of thriving. Let’s look at some change in the face of the world custom-made by this pandemic:
1. The radical rise of Work-from-Home.
Many freelancers around the world are used to this set-up. Online meetings, tasks go in and out of their computers, working while in their pajamas. But now, even the full-time office employees are required to “take home their work”, attend Zoom meetings and be attentive in Slack chat. I included, as I work as an App Developer in an SEO company, now I feel like I’m a Virtual Assistant – and mind you, I love it!
2. The simple sneezing in public has been taken seriously.
It’s a sin when you sneeze or cough in open public spaces, even you are fully geared with mask. A simple sneeze will result in a one-kilometre social distancing.
3. New technologies were discovered just to cope up.
With this urgency, inventors were racing not just for the medicine against the virus, but also innovations that can go hand-in-hand with the prevention and hygiene optimization. According to BBC.com, there is a new breed of Ventilator (by Dr. Rhys Thomas) which a patient can use by himself and can clean the room infected with virus. That’s easy and intelligent!
4. The significant drop-rate of traffic which significantly drop air pollution in main cities.
Here in the Philippines, traffic is the number 1 problem. According to rappler.com, the lock downs on major cities have led to an improved air quality in the region. Because vehicles were limited, the NO2 pollution released in the city drops an approximately 45%. Smells good right?
5. New words and anti-boredom activities were invented.
Have you heard of the word Zoombombing? Imagine you are in a Zoom meeting with your boss, and a random guy you don’t know jumps inside the meeting, making either funny or disruptive things. And TikTok? A somewhat “not new” music video social media app that booms “again” in downloads and usage, thanks to the boredom on being on a lock-down.
6. New ways to earn are discovered by the “non-techie” guys.
I observed that during the pandemic, my facebook feed was bombarded with online sellers (so they are business minded now?), webmaster classes (even the accountants can be a web developer now, and find gigs in upwork), and their TikTok videos ^_^
7. Relationships.
Is your relationship getting “stronger” due to lock down? Well, expect a baby boom in the months of November, December and January! In my family, I have now more time to play with my daughter, assist my wife in her garden (new skill acquired: Carpentry and Masonry), and work-out my fat belly!
These things doesn’t end here, and I’m sure many changes brought by this pandemic will arise sooner or later. I wish this pandemic teach us many lessons. And I hope, as humans always does, we find a way to cope up with this new face of the Earth.
